Industrial complex, consumed by time, realized at the end of '50s beginning of '60s for the enlargement of the "Abatoni's former woolen mill", composed by four units for production use of a surface of about 3.800 sqm, with attached pertaining outbuildings.
The complex is located in a peripheral area inside the fraction of St. Lucia - Abatoni; an urban context that represented, and still represent, even in minor form, the zone where used to concentrate the production buildings of Northern Prato.
Some of the surrounding areas, where old industrial complex were present, has been transformed, thanks to savvy recovery plans, in residential and commercial areas; the interventions on the infrastructures equipped the zone of wide green-spaces, good roads, comfortable parking lots and adequate services.
The owners of the funds approved the Project that anticipate the functional recovery, integrated, responsible and eco-friendly complex, to return to its original beauty and function.

One building, obsolete today, but characterized by a story or a function, can be reused with surprising and charming results. This structure, for example, responded to its context in many different ways. One time it has been used as animal shelter, one old cowshed annexed to the Fabio's Farm; in present time it will be recovered as civil use as private residential residence.
During the first phase of works the structure will be entirely demolished, and then rebuild, in the second phase, utilizing the same previous materials selected with extreme care and properly integrated, where missing, with other recover material.

The restoration and consolidation of the medieval Galciana's Tower - one of the famouse 48 Villas of the Countryside of Prato - and its conservative consolidation, were realized intervening on the precarious structural interventions made year by year, looking for, as much as possible, to maintain unchanged the original layers, identification of the evolutionary history of the structure.

In compliance with the previous geometries particular care has been given to the restructuring of a Frigidarium for the cold water baths and a Calidarium, intended to the hot water baths and vapor baths, he user realized an immediate bipolar interpretation of the complex: Agriturismo and We Nel rispetto delle geometrie precedenti particolare cura è stata fornita alla ristrutturazione di un Frigidarium per i bagni di acqua fredda e di un Calidarium, destinato ai bagni in acqua calda e ai bagni di vapore, fornendo così al fruitore accorto un’immediata interpretazione bipolare del complesso: Agriturismo e Wellness Center, as expressly requested by the customer.

The reuse of a building is one of the most sustainable method available to the designer. It does not propose only a connection between the cultural heritage and the collective memory, but consists also in a way of respect to the nature.
Renovating an existent building, many services are already present, so energy is saved. The reuse of the structure reduces also the quantity of necessary building resources. Valors, design assets, operative opportunities which we take constantly note.
See, for example, the refurbishment and upgrading of a former rural annex designed as civil housing. The owner, madame Sandra, ultimates the first phase of the work, personally curated the interior design.
